Please come visit us at the Christian Science Society at 1819 Park Avenue on Lafayette Square in St Louis. We might sing an old favorite, or you might hear a new song, but we promise that whatever you hear, it will be a heartfelt and honest message of comfort and healing. We’d love to see you!
Fall has arrived, announced by turning leaves, clear blue skies and cooling temperatures. College students have returned, and the Society in Lafayette Square is welcoming them to their school year church home. They come with their drinks from Park Coffee, curl up on our sofas and the on the floor, and help give our church the sense of home we love.
The Solo Committee’s Christmas CD, Every Christmas Morn has also arrived and we are busy promoting and sharing and getting the word out. Thanks to all of you who share this music with friends and family. We hope you will help us let people know about this new CD.
Susan Mack is busy with work in the public practice of Christian healing. She has stopped touring to take up her listing in the Christian Science Journal. We were so grateful to get the new CD all laid down before her listing as a full time practitioner came out.
Even before Susan, Sue and Carey got together to be The Solo Committee, we were cooking up songs along with the Christmas turkey. One or two of the songs on Every Christmas Morn were first conceived when Christmas was still full of stockings and toys, Santa and Sinterklaas. Out of the yearning to experience a deeper, more spiritual sense of Christmas, songs were born to share in our annual gathering of friends and family, where everyone sings. This yearning is what comes out in the collection of songs on Every Christmas Morn.
One of the delights of writing songs for the Sunday lesson for many years is that there is almost always a song ready to hand for this week’s music. One week recently, Carey and Sue read thru the Christian Science Bible lesson and could pick a Solo Committee song for almost every section! Lately we have been content to rely on our collection to provide us with Sunday solos, but as we settle in for the winter, new songs are likely to pop out.
The Solo Committee continues to hear from folks who have been helped and healed by our music, and are always so grateful when you write to let us know. A listener who keeps 3 Steps And A Bounce and G is for God in her car CD player said “the upbeat melodies, with seemingly simple but really profound metaphysical messages… have been uplifting and cheerful accompaniment in my travels. Thank you so much for sharing your inspiration.”
